I play music with kids at schools. One of those schools is called "Firefly Academy." I always loved the image of kids buzzing around the room like a flock of fireflies.

I wrote this song for as sort of a theme song for the school. At the time, Firefly was probably tied with Ladybug 123 for most-requested-song at family shows. A lot of people tell us it's their favorite on Mary Macaroni.

If you listen closely to the choruses on the Ladybug One version you can hear the tree frogs singing. They come in very subtly after the line "I fly through the sky" but they are pretty low in the mix so you have to turn the volume on your ears way up. I recorded these sweet little frogs mating in early spring and mixed their voices with the ringing of a Japanese Bell. Since fireflies aren't famous for making any particular sound, I was trying to create the sound of night.
