This is the third ladybug song I've written, which is halfway why the "1 2 3" is tacked on the title. I recycled some of the lines from song to song, but this song goes somewhere new.

(For the music nerds reading this) When I was writing Ladybug 123 I was trying to write in the lydian mode. For this song it turned out to be a better idea on paper so I chucked it and dropped the song into Ionian (do-re-me-fa-sol-la-ti-do) like 99% of all the music out there. If you listen to the vocal harmony in the counting part of the chorus, you can still hear the old lydian mode melody.

Ladybug 123 is a fun tune to play at the children's shows because everyone instantly knows the words and usually ends up singing along. Nala has come up with some "fingerplays" for this song which we do at shows with kids. Fingerplays are hand and body movements that help bring the words of a song to life for younger children.

We try to get all the kids to follow Nala's fingerplays bringing that next layer of interaction to the song. Then Nala hops up on her hula hoop and shows off some of her tricks. And then we have a ladybug dance party. If you've come to a show you know what I'm talking about.
