There really are a lot of rainbows in Hawaii.

I went for a nice long visit one February during record Hawaiian rainfall, including flash floods. It was crazy. So much for a sunny getaway.

The title line (It's gotta rain if you want a rainbow) came and I thought it needed to be turned into a song. I wrote at least seven verses to this one, but was never entirely happy with them. I just kept writing and writing and crossing out and crossing out. Sometimes at shows I pull out one of those throw-away verses.

Everyone loves the sunshine. It's an easy thing to do. But sometimes it's a struggle to make it through those rainy days. There's a lot of things like that, where you have to wait or push or work through these rough spots to get to the gold on the other side.
