I often open shows with some variation of this original finger play rhyme. Just a simple story with shapes and claps to wake the fine motor skills and sync the group. Many of the motions that accompany the verses in the rhyme cross the midline, which stimulates the left and right sides of the brain. This, along with sequential memorization and language development, is a building block to later developmental stages like learning to play a musical instrument! Plus it's just downright fun.
