Twinkle Twinkle is an old song, and the melody and lyrics were written in two different centuries! My understanding is that the famous "Twinkle" melody is from a French song first published in the 1700s. The English lyrics about the star guiding a traveler through the dark were later penned by English poet Jane Taylor in the early 1800s.

I sing four of the five known verses on my folksy 2021 version of this public domain song. The melody is so simple and classic! It's definitely a song I'd like to see stay alive and the way to keep songs alive is for us to keep singing them.
